Jun 08, Ann rated it really liked it Shelves: Which is important to him since he was brutalized as a young boy, and since then has fought to be someone that uses says for HIS benefit, and no one else’s. Being a botanist and in love with every form of plant life, it is the delicate and beautiful orchids that enthrall Wes.

Of course, I’m no historian, unless you count all the historical romance I read. This story dealt with pretty horrific circumstances, but never once did I feel that the author cheapened the impact such violations have on a person by sensationalizing their telling.

A Private Gentleman

While Wes hidi trying to sneak around to find a rare orchid rare plants being his only passion he is pleasantly assaulted by Michael. Having survived her own horrific tragedy, this amazing woman helps Wes to see there is hope for him, too.

But since then I read several great ones. He finds the orchid, yes…but he finds something else even more rare and exquisite: It also made me confused about the exact decade the book was set in: I carried my kindle around all day in case I could get a glimpse!

Slightly over the top ending but perfect. I liked both of them a lot. Ditch the drugs, cease the self-destructive behavior, get past it all and embrace life. Even though that was not on screen either, it was almost worse in the innuendo. First by making the insta-love more of a subconscious thing and not both characters instantaneously screaming it for all the world to here.

Review: A Private Gentleman by Heidi Cullinan

Exquisite love story between a whore and a stammerer opium addict. Here is another book that isn’t getting the stars that the writing may deserve because the Theme was too much for me. He finds the orchid, yes but he finds something else even more rare and exquisite: To seal gentlmean bond, they must break the ties that bind.

Now Wes decides to step completely out of his comfort zone and pursue Michael, despite the fact that the man is a whore for hire. I just really like love and stories about love and when two people are in love.

A Private Gentleman is available for download from Apple Books. Perhaps when it was released I wasn’t a fan of historicals.

The secondary characters were perfectly done and added to the story so well. So, I was a bit at sea there. The closer his shy, poppy-addicted lover lures him to the light of love, the harder his past works to drag him back into the dark.

And I’m going to blame Samhain for it. Only afterwards, when I thought about it, I realized what total wimps both main characters were, Wes heii more than Michael. There is a bit of a nice tidy “tie all the ends up” plot development which ccullinan of felt a bit too convenient, but it did fit in with the previous behaviour of the villain, so it wasn’t beyond the realms of possibility.

In fact I took to both of them because they were so refreshing in these days of perfect hunks of men. Account Options Sign in. Michael, too, finds gentlfman attracted to the reserved gentlemen, only to discover that he is inextricably linked to a past that haunts Michael relentlessly.
